above - square one (autumn 1998), below - square two (autumn 1998)
when i don't know what to knit, i go back to square one. it's the jumping off point for all subsequent squares in what seems to be a lifelong project. i'm knitting square seven now. in the coming days i will post squares three through six.
it's a simple garter stitch, log cabin square knit entirely from scrap yarn. i'm using a size 9 needle, worsted yarns single stranded and thinner yarns double stranded. i like them to look a bit rough and rickety. you'll see in square three how i tried to make them more uniform. i wasn't too pleased with the results. once again, i'm recommitting myself to completing this project, but considering that i've only knit 6.5 squares in 11 years, i'm not my getting my hopes up. it would be nice to complete it though. and i certainly have plenty of scrap yarn. we'll see how it goes!
